| Memory grew up in San Francisco. Her attraction to object manipulation and the movement arts began in adolescence when she hooped, played with a baton and diabolo, and swung keychains and umbrellas on her walk to school. She was introduced to poi around 2000 through the local electronic music culture, and became obsessed with ball juggling for most of 2002 before again switching her focus to poi. She lit her first wicks in 2003, and began to perform with SF-based Los Suenos del Fuego in 2004. For Memory, object manipulation encompasses exercise and reflex training, mediation and grounding, exhibitionism and expression, and the opportunity to interact and collaborate with an incredibly diverse community of talented artists. Memory is skilled in poi, fans, contact staff, double staff, hoop, floating wand, fire eating, and a little ball-, club-, and contact-juggling. She has performed at many Bay Area venues and West Coast festivals, as well as 4 years in the Burning Man Fire Conclave. She has provided instruction in the SF Bay Area since 2005, and has taught fan workshops up and down the California coast. She currently performs with the Vulcan Crew, and is featured in the Fan Technique instructional DVD from Vulcan DVDs, coming Summer 2010. |
